*No*vember
November 20, 2011 01:46 PM PST
*NO*vember is one of those buzz words we nightlife/Burning Man types in San Francisco like to use around this time of year. October (or "Rocktober" as we affectionately refer to it) is always jam packed with can't-miss parties, street fairs and music festivals that render most of us pretty useless come November. I certainly fall into that category. So in observance of *NO*vember I'm taking a little time away from clubs and music festivals to get some much needed R & R and indulge in some of my other interests. Attempts to stay away from my decks at home, however, have been futile as evidenced by this tech house & breakbeat mix that I recorded last weekend to help me through a Saturday morning jog. I kinda liked how this one came out and I thought you might too, so press play (or download) and enjoy! Oh, and Happy Holidays! Track List

This is my set as recorded live at the Treasure Island Music Festival’s ‘Silent Frisco’ on October 15th.....I was pretty happy with how this one came out considering it was mixed entirely in my headphones. As it was a silent disco, and there was no amplified sound, I didn’t have the benefit of monitors in the booth. This was just my second crack at playing a silent disco, and all things considered, the mixing isn’t too shabby.

This mix is a compilation of songs, both new and old, from Burning Man Rites of Passage that I found most inspiring. I hope you enjoy these tracks as much as I do. A very special thank you to my good friends at DISTRIKT (Piper Hook, Kramer, Ben Seagren, Ronnie Altoonian, Matt Kramer, Paul Geddes just to name a few) for allowing me to be a part of such a wonderful camp this year. The epic daytime parties at DISTRIKT were surpassed only by the amazing teamwork, camaraderie and friendship that made them all possible. Long live DISTRIKT! Also, a big shout-out to my pal, Elite Force, who has always been a huge inspiration to me. The track selection for this particular mix was heavily-influenced by several of Shack's sets on the playa this year. To my friends in The Nutz Camp (McB, Dr. Rick, CBrads, Lisa Campe, Debi, Altomare, Laura Z, Fonzie, The Davis Brothers, Ana and the rest of ya) this one's for you! Finally, many thanks to Misha Kutuzov for the breathtaking photo from Saturday afternoon at DISTRIKT. The second volume of my Breaks for Black Rock City series is my set *as recorded live* from Public Works in San Francisco on Saturday, July 23rd, 2011. The Space Cowboys and Brass Tax teamed up that night to throw an absolute barn burner to benefit Pete Hudson's CHARON Project which will be featured at Burning Man this year. For more information on CHARON and Pete Hudson visit http://www.hudzo.com. After a one-year Burning Man hiatus, I am excited to be heading back to the playa this year with my good friends at DISTRIKT. All four of my previous Burning Man experiences took place at 9:00 and F when the camp was called The Deep End and many of my closest friends remain key members of the camp today. So it's only appropriate I return to that familiar spot, where I've had so many wonderful experiences, for my fifth Burn. I'll be spending a lot of time with my beloved Space Cowboys too over at 4:45 and Esplanade. And I'm looking forward to playing for my friends at the Nutz Camp, Disorient, Pink Mammoth and the Dancetronauts. I'll be posting a complete list of my Burning Man gigs at djzachmoore.com in the coming weeks. Stayed tuned! Finally, make sure you add this mix to your list of things to pack for the playa. It may prove usefulf for the long drive to Black Rock City and back! Enjoy Boys and Girls! Track List

June 05, 2011 04:01 PM PDT
I recorded this mix on April 30th fully expecting to drop these tracks that evening at The EndUp for the DISTRIKT fundraiser. But at the last second I decided to play breaks instead and none of these tracks made it into that set. I still had this mix on my iPod a few weeks later when I made my very first trip to the Lightening in Bottle festival in Southern California. And it's a good thing I did because it turned out to be a big part of the 'soundtrack' at our camp that weekend. I stayed with a group of Los Angeles-based friends who team up every year at both Lightening in a Bottle and Burning Man to form a fabulous camp called 'The Nutz'. I had a fantastic time at L.I.B. (due in a very large part to the hospitality of The Nutz). To anybody looking for a festival similar to Burning Man but without many of the inconveniences that come with camping in the extreme heat and alkaline dust of the Black Rock desert, I highly recommend L.I.B. And that's not to say L.I.B. doesn't stand on its own merits. While similar in some ways to Burning Man, L.I.B. has its own unique vibe that makes the festival a truly worthwhile experience. I don't know why it took me so long to make it happen for the first time. One thing's for sure, I'll be heading back next year and I'm going to try to get myself into the line-up too! The title of this mix is both a tribute to The Nutz (Kathleen, Lisa, Rick, EJag, C-Brads, Debi, Nicole, Scott and Kelly) and a reference to the name of the road where we set up our camp. Enjoy Everyone! Track List

This is my set as a recorded live from the DISTRIKT Burning Man fundraiser at The EndUp on April 30th. If you follow me pretty closely on Podomatic or iTunes, then you'll recognize many of these big beat tracks which have been a staple of my live sets over the last 6-12 months. After a one-year hiatus, I'm excited to be heading back to the playa this year with my good friends at DISTRIKT. All four of my previous Burning Man experiences took place at 9:00 and F when the camp was called The Deep End and many of my closest friends, including my best friend Piper Hook, remain key members of the camp today. So it's only appropriate I return to that familiar spot, where I've had so many wonderful experiences, for my fifth Burn. April 26, 2011 09:56 AM PDT
A couple years ago I had the privilege of opening for Dylan Rhymes and Meat Katie at Opel Productions’ seven-year anniversary party at Kelly’s Mission Rock. The gig was just one of several golden opportunities Syd Gris has handed me over the years and I’ll always be thankful to Syd for helping me get established as a DJ in a very deep talent pool here in San Francisco. This tech/progressive/electro house mix is a live recording of my set from that night. Enjoy, Everyone. Track List

This is a spontaneous tech and progressive house mix I threw together a couple weeks back on a cold, overcast Saturday afternoon here on Gough Street. No prep or pre-programming went into this one and it was recorded in a single take. The title is of course a nod to my crew, the beloved Space Cowboys. This mix also serves as the first of what I hope will be many on this new podcast. After six years I decided it was time to shelve the Gough Street Sessions project. I was ready for a change both in name ("Gough Street Sessions" doesn't exactly role off the tongue) and in programming (I don't plan to feature any guest DJs on this show). As you may know, I already produce two variety podcasts, 'The RIPEcast' for The Space Cowboys and 'DISTRIKT'. There just isn't the time to produce a third and I've been a wanting a place to feature my own content for some time now. If you're a fan of my style then this is the podcast for you. If the appeal of The Gough Street Sessions for you was the variety and you're less interested in my stuff, no worries. I invite you to check out The RIPEcast and/or DISTRIKT if you haven't already. Both shows are available (for free) via Podomatic and iTunes and both feature a wide variety of DJs and musical styles. You may be wondering what will be become of the old Gough Street Sessions content. Don't worry. All of those mixes are available to stream or download for free from my SoundCloud page: http://bit.ly/gough-soundcloud. And in a few weeks I will also have a page for that content on my website www.djzachmoore.com. I'd like to thank all of you for supporting the Gough Street Sessions project over the years and I really hope you’ll continue to follow me on this new podcast. Enjoy the mix, Everyone! Track List

March 23, 2011 09:51 AM PDT
This is a live recording of my set from Opulent Temple's Sacred Dance at the Bentley Reserve in San Francisco on March 12th. Sacred Dance was a re-creation of the legendary white party the Opulent Temple crew throws at Burning Man every year and it was quite an impressive production (as all OT events are). You'll find heavy doses of Krafty Kuts in this mix (as usual) including two of his re-rubs, 'Bangkok' and 'Saxone', that have found their way into many of my live sets over the last year or so. You're also going to hear new tracks from my good pals, Dylan Rhymes and Shack (a.k.a. Zodiac Cartel), which have been fitting very nicely into my sets lately. Finally, thanks to my favorite up-and-coming producers, the Dublic twins of Budapest, for the two fantastic re-rubs they passed along to me for this set. Of the 12 tracks in this compilation, their re-works of 'Turn Up the Volume' and 'Cal State Anthem' got the most enthusiastic response from the crowd that night. Many thanks to Syd Gris and the whole Opulent Temple crew for inviting me to play Sacred Dance. And, Syd, I'm sorry I couldn't find any white pants in time for the party. Enjoy the mix, Everyone. Podcast SummaryA collection of house and breakbeat mixes from Zach Moore of The Space Cowboys. For more information on Zach visit djzachmoore.com. And for more information on The Space Cowboys visit spacecowboys.org. About Zach MooreZach Moore’s twelve-year love affair with DJing began in 1999 when he was smitten by house music on the back patio of the Phoenix Hotel at one of San Francisco’s infamous Wet Parties. Three years later, Zach bought his first pair of Pioneer CDJs and began playing as often as he could at house parties and watering holes around the city. Zach didn’t make any ripples in San Francisco’s deep pool of DJ talent until the summer of 2005 when he launched a series of recorded dance mixes called The Gough Street Sessions (2005-2011). The project struck a chord with many of San Francisco's ravenous house music fans and only a few months later, The Gough Street Sessions were played to a national audience on XM Radio’s DJ showcase, Thump Radio. The popularity of Zach’s Gough Street mixes proved an important foothold for his fledgling DJ career and eventually led to a residency with the renowned Burning Man sound camp, The Deep End, in 2006. As a Deep End resident, Zach began landing gigs with many of San Francisco's top promoters (Spundae, Seismic, Opel Productions, Satellite, Qool and Flirty-Flirty) at the city’s finest venues (Mighty, Shine, Ruby Skye, 1015 Folsom, The EndUp, Supperclub, The Fillmore and The Warfield) while sharing the bill on occasion with world-class DJs like Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, The Plump DJs, Plaza de Funk, The Rogue Element, Slyde, Soul of Man, A-Skillz and Krafty Kuts. In 2009, Zach turned The Gough Street Sessions into a popular iTunes podcast which featured many of San Francisco’s finest DJs as well as top international jocks like Elite Force, Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes and Soul of Man. And thanks to appearances on several respected music blogs (The Tech Funk Manifesto, Jungo Road and Breakzlinkz), the show became a hit with electronic music fans as far as the UK, Europe and even Australia. After three years with The Deep End, Zach joined The Space Cowboys, another famed San Francisco-based Burning Man crew, in January 2010. Zach embraced his new role with the Cowboys by launching The RIPEcast, a weekly podcast featuring the musical stylings of The Space Cowboys as well as distinguished guests from the international scene like Krafty Kuts, Plaza de Funk, The Plump DJs, Elite Force, Slyde, Myagi and Soul of Man. The RIPEcast quickly became one of the most popular dance music podcasts in the United States while maintaining a stranglehold on the #1 spot in the breakbeat charts on Podomatic.com. While the Gough Street Sessions were a success that far exceeded any of Zach’s expectations, the show was eventually moved to the back burner by the weekly demands of The RIPEcast. And in March 2011, Zach launched a new podcast for his old friends at DISTRIKT (formerly know as The Deep End). With no time left for a third variety show, but still wanting a place for his own content, Zach retired The Gough Street Sessions in April 2011 and replaced them with a new podcast called, Zach Moore in The Mix. Over the years Zach’s love for electronic music has run the gamut (deep, vocal, tech, progressive & electro house, breakbeat and techno) but of late the focus of his live sets and recorded mixes has been breakbeat and electro house. Among the artists that most heavily influence Zach’s style are The Stanton Warriors, DeeKline, Elite Force/Zodiac Cartel, Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Soul of Man, Slyde, Plaza de Funk, The Beat Assassins and Krafty Kuts.
